Volunteers sought for two teams to work in Tijuana, Mexico

Global Partnerships has two special 2018 caregiver service opportunities open for fall 2018. All caregivers and board members in the Providence St. Joseph Health family of organizations may apply.

The trip dates are Oct. 18-22 and Nov. 1-5. The work on these trips will be helping with community projects or home construction with our service partner, Esperanza International. The focus of the trips is to work in solidarity with local residents. Team members will stay with Esperanza families. Early registrants have a greater chance of being chosen.

To apply, please follow this link. Potential volunteers are encouraged to apply by April 30. Early registrants have a greater chance of being selected.

All caregivers who are interested in international service as a component of ongoing formation are strongly encouraged to apply. Spanish language ability is not required.

Our work in Mexico extends the Mission of Providence St. Joseph Health beyond our region and our nation. We are excited about this year’s service work in Mexico and we are mindful of our guidance from the Sisters of Providence, who asked us to “reach beyond the borders of our own country as global citizens.” We look forward to receiving your application, and thank you for all that you do in service each day in our home communities.

Volunteer requirements
Selected volunteers will be required to use their own time (paid time off), contribute $500 toward travel and in-country costs, fundraise $1,000 on behalf of Esperanza International, and participate by phone or Lync in three trip orientations and a post-trip trip debriefing. A moderate to high fitness level strongly advised.

Please apply only if you are in good physical condition for long periods of walking, standing, and long bus rides through varied terrain. If you have concerns about the physical demands of this trip, please contact Global.Partnerships@Providence.org with questions.

All applicants must ask their direct supervisors to submit Global Partnerships Recommendation Forms. Caregivers who apply by April 30 and whose supervisor feedback is received by May 4 will receive confirmation regarding our selection process by or before May 31.

Roundtrip flights to San Diego are covered as a part of your trip contribution. (Note: California caregivers able to meet at the San Diego airport will pay a reduced trip cost of $250.) Team members will take a private shuttle to the border, walk through guided by a team leader, and be received by Esperanza staff on the other side. Trips include daily reflections and post-trip gatherings.

If you are not available to apply in 2018 but would like to receive our invitation for next year’s service trips, please complete our Global Partnerships 2019 Contact Form.
