Queen Caregiver to be Pubished in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine

QVMC Infection Prevention Specialist, Gianna Peralta, MPH, can add another study to her list of publications.  A research paper she collaborated on has been accepted for publication in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine.  Peralta’s study on Fentanyl – associated illness among substance users focuses on opioid overdoses in the emergency department in a Fulton County, GA hospital.

The article was published online March 20th on the journal’s website. The Napa native, who was born at the Queen, was drawn to infection prevention as a graduate student at UC Berkeley.

“My first experience was as an infection prevention intern at an acute care hospital in San Francisco,” explained Peralta.  “After obtaining my Masters in Public Health (MPH), I was accepted as a CDC Applied Epidemiology Fellow. I served for two years in Atlanta, GA, where I worked very closely with the HAI Surveillance Director on various projects. I found that I really enjoyed infection prevention, which allows me to apply my skills and knowledge as an epidemiologist while serving as ‘boots on the ground’. My position here at the Queen is especially meaningful, as I am able to support and serve members of my own community.”
