Beware of Tailgaters

Growing up in Texas and working in the Christian environment in which we work, it’s common to be polite and hold doors for people to make it easier for them to enter. However, there are instances in which we should not let our courtesy override our security. Tailgating, the act of allowing someone to follow you in through a door is one of the most common and innocent security breaches. The problem with these lax situations and common courtesies is that they open our buildings to unauthorized entry by individuals who could intend harm to your property, employees or visitors. In addition, this paves the way for a potential infant abduction.

Our hospitals utilize the Hirsch system to control many of our exterior doors. When an employee scans their badge to enter a door, there is a delay in the time in which the door re-secures itself. This small amount of time is sufficient for someone to approach the door and walk in behind you. Security Services needs everyone to do their part to insure there are no unauthorized individuals entering any of our facilities. Please make sure that when entering the building through a secured door, you make sure there are no individuals attempting to follow you in. All individuals who do not have authorization to enter a secured door should be directed to a public entrance.
