Changes in SMG nursing leadership

Swedish,

It is with mixed emotions that I announce Janelle Martelino will be departing as nurse executive of Swedish Medical Group for full-time study in pursuit of a Ph.D. in nursing. Donna Jensen, director of operations, OB/GYN and Midwifery, will take on interim responsibility of nurse executive duties. This change will come into effect on Oct. 14.

Janelle began her tenure at Swedish Medical Group four years ago as Program Administrator helping to build the infrastructure of both the Patient Centered Medical Home and Best Practice Teams.  Her knowledge and experience in nursing and clinical operations was recognized and she was promoted to Director of Operations and subsequently to Nurse Executive.  In these roles, she provided leadership with teams to ensure compliance with various state and federal regulations, elevated clinical care by empowering nurses and medical assistants with knowledge of more robust clinical standards and protocols, and fostered increasing growth of the float pool.  She will be remembered as a strong patient advocate and a collaborative nurse leader.

Donna Jensen has been with the organization for over four years as Director of Operations of the Women’s Health service line.  She has been instrumental in developing a systems-wide approach to providing OB/GYN care that has included our community partners and our Family Practice OB’s.   She has also expanded our Midwifery services and done exceptional work in building and expanding our Palliative Care services along with strengthening our Addiction Recovery services and establishing Infectious Disease services at Edmonds.  Her vast leadership experience in operations and nursing will be of benefit to the organization as she takes on this important role.

Please join me in wishing Janelle well in her future endeavors and welcoming Donna in her new role.
