Janice Newell will retire as chief information officer in December

Janice Newell has announced her decision to retire as executive vice president and chief information officer for Providence St. Joseph Health at the end of 2018. We are grateful and appreciative of all the contributions Janice has made through her servant leadership to Providence St. Joseph Health.

Janice has been integral in unifying the information services team across our family of organizations. She also has been instrumental in implementing and optimizing Epic and in building the technology backbone of our organization.

Janice has more than 20 years of experience in health care information technology. Prior to joining Providence Health & Services in 2012, she was the chief information officer at Swedish Health Services. Before Swedish, she was the chief information officer at Group Health Cooperative. She began her career as an officer in the United States Air Force.

Our mission calls us to serve the needs of our communities and make health care as accessible, well-coordinated and affordable as possible, especially for those who are poor and vulnerable. Janice’s commitment to our mission and the technologies she has helped to implement have allowed us to deliver on our promise to the communities we serve.

Janice will continue to serve as chief information officer at Providence St. Joseph Health while leading information services through a thoughtful and well-planned transition. She will also continue to support projects related to Epic, our electronic health record.

Please join me in thanking Janice for everything she has done for our mission.
