PSJH hospitals recognized for best outcomes and value for hip and knee surgery

Two hospitals in the Providence Saint Joseph Health family are among 17 hospitals nationwide to be recognized for having the best value for hip and knee replacement surgery for Medicare populations.

Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif., and Swedish Medical Center in Seattle ranked third and fourth, respectively, in a list compiled by trade publication Orthopedics This Week.

The publication also listed both hospitals, along with Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash., and Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash., among the top 200 hospitals in the U.S. for total hip and knee surgery for Medicare populations.

To determine its list, publication editors examined hospital performance data pulled from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services database. They examined overall cost of care, complication rates and patient satisfaction scores to conclude what makes a “top” hip and knee replacement hospital.

The article also highlights a hospital’s average hip and knee payment by CMS, including number of cases reviewed, and summary of achievements. See the full list of best value hospitals and the top 200 hospitals, organized by state, as ranked by Orthopedics This Week.
