Shannon Dwyer to leave PSJH at end of April following 20 year legacy of trusted counsel

Dear Colleagues,

After 27  years in Catholic health care, and two decades of distinguished servant leadership to our organization , Shannon Dwyer, Esq., has announced her resignation as executive vice president, special advisor to the CEO. She has been a friend, respected colleague, trusted counsel and strategic advisor to me and many others throughout her career.

Shannon’s significant contributions over the years have enhanced our ministry and strengthened Catholic health care. Shannon was instrumental in her role as general counsel in facilitating the combination of St. Joseph Health and Providence Health & Services, helping to bring to life the vision of creating Providence St. Joseph Health. She also served as lead counsel for the affiliation with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in 2013 and has provided inspired leadership in redesigning legal services.

With a collaborative spirit, Shannon has helped to enhance the overall governance effectiveness of PSJH. She has worked closely with the chair of the Governance Committee of the PSJH Board to implement a successful governance redesign for legacy St. Joseph Health that resulted in a more efficient, effective and streamlined model creating greater alignment across the ministry. As my advisor and thought partner, Shannon has championed governance best practices and provided strategic advice and counsel related to potential future partnerships.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shannon’s commitment to meeting the needs of those who are poor and vulnerable is tangibly expressed in her community service. In collaboration with her colleague, Tara Cowell, Esq., she started the Family Advocates Program, a medical-legal collaborative that provides free legal services in matters affecting the health, education and well-being of patients and their families. Over the years, Shannon has received numerous nominations for values in action and was the recipient for Service in 2000 and Dignity in 2010.

We are grateful for Shannon’s superb leadership and years of service as general counsel and special advisor. Please join me in thanking her and wishing her well in her next chapter. Shannon will complete her service to Providence St. Joseph Health on April 30.
